Five years of the Step Up Centre

On 11th November 2015 we celebrated our first small, but very important, anniversary – 5 years. It was a great excuse to get all of our friends together: those who have stood beside us and supported us over the last five years, in our failures and successes.

It was probably an unusual celebration for our guests – we made them do a little learning to feel like one of our students.

The very hospitable Katya and Roman awaited us at the Kings and Cabbage cooking club and they, along with our guests, prepared a wonderful dinner.

Those who didn’t fancy a culinary experiment took part in our Literature Club where they listened to and discussed Chekhov’s “The Siren” 🙂

And of course, Step Up students made us the tastiest celebration cake!

All of our guests also took part in the charity raffle – some of the prizes up for grabs were biscuits made by our students as part of the Maslom Vverh project, a juicer, a Russell Hobbs toaster and new books.

We are so grateful to everyone who dropped everything to spend this lovely evening with us. Thank you to Kings and Cabbage, particularly Katya and Roman, for their hospitality and for providing us with an unusual but comfy venue.

Thank you to Mann, Ivanov and Ferber for donating books for the raffle and to Russell Hobbs for the electrical items. A huge thank you to Justin Miflander, too.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers and chefs – thanks to you, we had a real celebration. It was so happy and tasty!

Below are some photos from the evening taken by Dina Magnat and Paulina Bikonya!
