This year a very important event will take place for the the Step Up Orphan Opportunity Centre – we will celebrate the anniversary of the volunteer camp at the Belsky Ustye residential institution for students with special needs.

We invite you to a test drive of “The Volunteer’s Way”, which will take place on 20th May at the Hyundai Motorstudio.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
  • Information about how it all started- the main aims of the organisation and the development of the volunteer camp at the Belsky Ustye residential institution
  • A photo exhibition, “The Kingdom of another Moon” (by Paulina Bikonya)
  • Music from the group “A constant stream of some A”
  • An interactive test drive of “The Volunteer’s Way”
  • The festival “Through the Looking Glass”: a short from the summer camp

  • “One of the main responsibilities for volunteers, in my opinion, is to widen the realms of what is possible, accepted and permitted. Volunteers constantly have to try and show the children that they are so much more than they think. Otherwise, what’s the point? Everyone understands that the current orphanage system is not ideal but how else can we change it if not through disputes, discussions and widening of the borders that are in place? The summer camp must be, to an extent, like a carnival- it has to be unpredictable, unusual and a little chaotic. Of course, all of this doesn’t detract from the importance of administrative tasks!” – Howard Amos, camp director (2014-2015)

MEETING POINT: HYUNDAI MOTORSTUDIO, NEW ARBAT STREET 21, BUILDING 1.
    GUESTS WILL ARRIVE AT 13.30
